180216 Media Rave Conference: Cucumber of Time

A media-rave conference by Marika Krasina and Anton Kryvulia in the HfG/ZKM Karlsruhe context of Bubble Opera. The presentation takes the Cucumber of Time — a model of events layered and extended in time — as its subject, combining diagrammatic propositions about the Bubble, event, Nonknowledge and temporal relations with an enacted conference format. Moscow-based art critic Egor Sofronov participated in the conference, and the Optimist choir, a choir of elderly women from Elektrostal, Russia, joined the program remotely by Skype.

Media Rave Conference: Cucumber of Time — 16 February 2018

The conference presented and discussed the temporal model itself, rather than performing a single presidential operator. Its announced programme included the Optimist choir participating remotely from Elektrostal and the Moscow critic Egor Sofronov. The operator names are part of the model's presentation; they should not be treated as a cast list for the conference.

Operators in Bubble Opera

The Cucumber of Time relates successive events as present, retained background and unknown future. In the Bubble Opera working presentation, the earlier variables of the Six Stones matrix are replaced with operators named after Soviet and Russian political figures: Brezhnev (`b`), Gorbachev (`G/g`), Yeltsin (`E/e`), Putin (`P`), and an unknown/noise operator (`X/x`). These are the formal names in the artists’ model; no president-to-date assignment is inferred from the chronology alone.

Work Media

The historical presentation develops a sequence from a white field and the emergence of an event to its retrospective background and an unknown possible future event. It then introduces the Samotryas sound system and a second, deliberately constructed story involving Vasily Zvezdochkin, nesting forms and the Cucumber of Time. The narrative material is preserved as the artists' presentation, not asserted here as independently verified biography or science.
